Workable is updating the candidate profile to offer a cleaner, more intuitive experience. These improvements consolidate activities in one place, reduce the number of tabs, and make it easier to add feedback without leaving the profile.
Tab changes
The tabs across the top of the candidate profile have been reorganized. The Communication, Review, and Comments tabs have been removed or renamed:
- Communication tab: removed — emails, texts, and events are now in the Timeline tab
- Comments tab: removed — comments are now in the Timeline tab
- Review tab: renamed to Evaluation and promoted to a main tab
Tabs are shown based on the following rules:
- Profile: always visible
- Timeline: always visible
- Evaluation: always visible
- Offer: only visible when an offer has been created for the candidate
- Files: only visible when files have been exchanged with the candidate
Note: To ease the transition, the Communication and Comments tabs will remain temporarily visible, guiding you to use the Timeline tab and its filters instead. They will be removed in a future update.
In-context comments and evaluations
You can now add a comment or evaluation directly from the Profile, Timeline, and Evaluation tabs — without going through the candidate actions menu. The input area sits close to the candidate information, making it faster to share feedback in context.
Select the input area to expand it. All the usual options appear inline: saving drafts, mentioning teammates with @, adding internal tags with #, setting visibility, and attaching files.
The Comment option is preselected on the Profile and Timeline tabs. On the Evaluation tab, the Evaluate option is preselected.
Tip: Select Open on the side to switch to the classic full-width interface. Switching between Comment and Evaluate is just a tab away in the side panel. If the current stage has a scorecard, a link to open it appears in the top right corner of the evaluation area.
New timeline design
The Timeline has been redesigned to make candidate activity easier to read and scan. Each activity card now follows a consistent structure showing the actor's avatar and name, the activity type, status (where applicable), timestamp, content, and visibility.
Activity labels
The actor's avatar, name, and a label indicating the activity now appear at the top of each card — for example, in the above screenshot, Natalie Sung | Stage change | Applied → Phone Screen.
Activity color coding
Activities are color-coded so you can quickly distinguish internal from external:
- External activities visible to the candidate — such as emails or scheduled interviews — are highlighted in blue
- Internal activities not visible to the candidate — such as comments — are highlighted in beige
Activity status
For activities that carry a delivery or completion status — such as texts, assessments, and background checks — the status now appears in the top right of the activity card. For example, a text will show Delivered or Not delivered with an explanatory tooltip.
Timeline filters
You can filter the Timeline to show only the activity types you need. Select Filter by activity on the right side of the timeline and choose one or more filters — they can be applied at the same time.
Each filter covers the following activities:
- Messages (Email / Text): emails and texts sent to the candidate, scheduled message automations, e-signature and offer messages
- Events: scheduled events and self-schedule request activities
- Comments: all comments previously found in the Comments tab
- Evaluation: evaluations, external feedback, and video interview evaluations (basic and scorecard-based) — does not include the overall evaluation rating
- Video interviews: all native and third-party video interview activities
- Assessments: all native and third-party assessment activities
- Background checks: all background check activities
- Reference checks: all reference check activities
Note: Some activities cannot be filtered and will not appear in filtered view: disqualified/reverted, snoozed/unsnoozed, candidate creation activities (applied, uploaded, copied), moved from job, blocked/unblocked, and saved/unsaved.
Files tab
The Files tab now displays attachments in a structured table ordered by date. Each row shows the file name, the team member who attached it, the type of activity it was sent through, and the date.
FAQs
- What is the difference between the Evaluation tab and the filtered timeline by Evaluation?
The Evaluation tab and the Timeline filtered view show related but different views. The Timeline filtered view displays all candidate activity in chronological order. The Evaluation tab organizes the same evaluation activity grouped by hiring stage, making it easier to compare feedback across stages at a glance. Because each view serves a different purpose, the Evaluation tab was kept as a dedicated space alongside the Timeline.
