Starting April 1st, 2023, Indeed will prevent employers from requesting job seekers for unnecessary PII (Personally Identifiable Information) information in the job description or during the application process. Unnecessary PII is defined as information including, but not limited to:
- full driver's license number
- full social security number (SSN)
- financial information such as bank account information numbers
- full date of birth
🔎 Why is this important?
The enforcement of this policy is important to protect job seekers' sensitive information. Requesting unnecessary PII information during the application process may discourage qualified job seekers due to concerns about identity theft and fraud.
❓How does it affect my Indeed jobs?
Customers who do not update their job description as well as any screener/ application questions to remove PII information requests will have reduced visibility and Indeed Apply will be disabled across their jobs.
💡Which alternative do I have?
As an alternative customers may collect this information after the initial application, during the hiring process instead. In most cases, this kind of PII information is not necessary until a job offer has been made.
