As of April 1, 2023, Indeed prevents employers from requesting unnecessary PII (Personally Identifiable Information) from job seekers in the job description or during the application process. Unnecessary PII is defined as information including, but not limited to:
- full driver's license number
- full social security number (SSN)
- financial information such as bank account information numbers
- full date of birth
🔎 Why is this important?
The enforcement of this policy is important to protect job seekers' sensitive information. Requesting unnecessary PII during the application process may discourage qualified job seekers due to concerns about identity theft and fraud.
❓How does it affect my Indeed jobs?
Customers who do not update their job description as well as any screener/ application questions to remove PII requests will have reduced visibility, and Indeed Apply will be disabled across their jobs.
💡Which alternative do I have?
As an alternative, customers may collect this information after the initial application, during the hiring process. In most cases, PII is not necessary until a job offer has been made.
