The Headcount evolution report lets you visualize how your company's workforce changes over a specific period, giving you a richer, time-based view of your employee data.
To access the report, click the Reports page in the navigation bar, open Employee management reports, then select Headcount evolution. The report is accessible by:
- HR Standard members
- HR Admin members
- Super Admin members
- Members with a permission set that includes "View HR reports (standard access)"
By default, the report opens with the current year selected and data grouped by month across all charts. The report includes 7 widgets, each covering a different dimension of your headcount data.
Total headcount evolution
A stacked bar chart shows the total number of employees at the end of each reported time period. New hires (light green) — employees whose start date falls within the reported period — are shown as a separate metric within each bar.
You can change the reporting steps (the time interval used along the x-axis) from the dropdown that appears when you hover over the widget. Available steps are:
- Day
- Week
- Month
- Quarter
- Year
Note: Any ongoing period (e.g. the current year or month) is reported up to today's date. Future hires already added to the people directory are not included.
Headcount by department
Visual data
A stacked bar chart shows the total number of employees in each top-level department at the end of each reported period, with a distinct color for each department.
When you apply a department filter, the chart groups data by each selected department rather than at the top level.
Tabular data
A pivot table shows the detailed headcount data for each top-level department (or selected departments when a filter is applied). As shown in the chart above, the pivot table can be viewed by day, week, month, quarter, or year.
Headcount by entity & location
Visual data
A stacked bar chart showing the total number of employees per entity location at the end of each reported period, with a distinct metric for each location.
When you apply an entity filter, the chart groups data at the level of each selected entity, location, or site.
Tabular data
A pivot table shows the detailed data for each entity and location (or selected entities, locations, and sites when a filter is applied). The same day/week/month/quarter/year options are available.
Headcount by employment type
Visual data
A stacked bar chart shows the total number of employees for each employment type, as defined in the Employment type field in each employee's profile (Contract details).
Tabular data
A pivot table shows the detailed headcount data per employment type.
Filtering
The report supports the following filters (available to all plans):
- Date (mandatory): Select a time period using presets (this year, this quarter, etc.) or date operations (between, before, after). Employees whose employment period overlaps with the selected date range are counted across all charts and tables.
- Department (optional): Select one or more departments or sub-departments at any level to see their headcount data over the selected period.
- Entity (optional): Select one or more company entities, locations, or sites to filter the data.
- Employment type (optional): Select one or more employment types, as set in each employee's profile, to filter the data.
You can combine multiple filters at once. When you select more than one option within the same filter, results matching any of those options will appear. When you apply filters from different categories, only results matching all of them will appear.
