Basic HR features will be enabled by default for your account at no added cost. To access paid HR features, you will need to obtain the Workable HR package. Below you can see the HR features availability:

As a Super Admin, you can view, activate, or deactivate employee management features anytime directly from the Feature visibility page.
Activating the features
If the employee management features are not activated for your account, click Turn On HR features, as shown below.
Note: If HR features were previously turned off for your account, turning them back on will not automatically reactivate account members who were deactivated at that time. You'll need to reactivate them manually from the Account members settings page.
🔎 Start implementing HR features by reviewing our Implementation guides for:
Managing feature visibility
Once employee management features are activated, Super Admins and HR Admins can control which individual HR features are visible in the account from the Feature visibility page in settings.
The features that can be shown or hidden are:
- Org chart
- E-signatures
- File management
- Onboarding
- Time off
- Time tracking
- Performance reviews
- Surveys
All features are turned on by default for new and existing accounts. Turning a feature off hides its related pages from settings, the main navigation, and employee profiles - it does not delete any data or cancel pending tasks (such as in-progress e-signature requests or onboardings). Everything is restored automatically if the feature is turned back on.
Note: Turning off an individual feature only affects visibility. To fully turn off HR features for your account instead, see the Deactivating the features section below - that action is only available to Super Admins and does cancel in-flight onboardings and signature requests.
To change which features are visible:
- Go to the Feature visibility page in settings, under Employee management.
- Select or clear the toggle next to each feature you want to show or hide.
- Select Save when prompted to apply your changes.
The navigation and available pages update automatically a few seconds after you save.
Org chart
Turning off Org chart hides the Org chart page from the Employees navigation. Users won't be able to view or export the org chart, even from a saved bookmark.
Note: This only hides the org chart view. The organization structure itself — the Manager field on each employee profile — is not affected.
E-signatures
Turning off E-signatures hides the whole feature across the product:
- Document templates in settings is hidden
- The e-signature tracking page in Files is hidden, along with the E-signatures table in the employee profile's Files app — no documents are deleted
- E-signature tasks can no longer be added to onboarding workflows, and any workflow that already includes one will skip it
- The Request e-signature action is removed from the employee profile Actions menu
- The e-signature notification preference is hidden
For accounts with a Workbright integration enabled, I-9 documents and their related actions and notifications are hidden as well.
File management
Turning off File management hides company file storage from the main Files navigation. HR Administrators lose access to existing folders and files, and Standard members no longer see Files in the navigation at all.
Note: Users with e-signature view/manage permissions will still see Files, so they can access e-signature and I-9 status pages. If both E-signatures and File management are turned off, Files is hidden even for Super Admins.
Onboarding
Turning off Onboarding hides the feature everywhere:
- Onboarding settings pages are removed from Employee management, along with any onboarding workflows and custom tasks already created
- The Onboard action and the Onboarding profile app are removed from employee profiles
- The Onboarding page under Employees, and the Onboarding widget on the HR Admin homepage, are hidden
- Onboarding-related notification preferences (completion, auto-publish outcome, task assignment) are hidden
Note: Custom tasks already assigned through an in-progress onboarding stay in the inbox and to-do widget — turning the feature off doesn't remove existing data.
Time off
Turning off Time off hides the Time off and Holiday calendars settings pages, and removes all time-off information from the Work calendar, employee profiles, the W homepage, Reports, and notification preferences (including the related custom datasets used in custom reports).
Note: Any integration (ADP, Xero, and others) that sends time-off data to a third party stops sending it while the feature is off — previously sent data isn't affected, and other employee data keeps syncing as configured.
Time tracking
Turning off Time tracking hides the Time tracking settings page, geofencing options in entity site setup, the Time tracking app on employee profiles, the related W homepage widget, the Attendance report and dataset, and the clock in/out notification preference. Existing time tracking entries are not deleted.
Note: If both Time off and Time tracking are turned off, the Work calendar item is removed from the main navigation entirely.
Performance reviews
Turning off Performance reviews hides the Performance templates settings page (Survey templates remain), the Performance page under Employees, the Performance app on employee profiles, and the related notification preferences (review completion, preparation, and sharing).
Note: Inbox items tied to an ongoing review cycle aren't archived automatically, but they also won't be actionable — archive them manually if needed.
Surveys
Turning off Surveys hides the Survey templates settings page (Performance templates remain), the Surveys page under Employees, and the survey completion notification preference.
Note: If both Performance reviews and Surveys are turned off, the shared settings page is hidden completely rather than relabeled to the remaining feature.
Deactivating the features
Click Turn off HR features at the bottom right of the page to disable the employee onboarding and management features for your account.
Note: If you have the Workable HR package and you disable the features along the way, you will still be billed for them.
This will immediately result in the following changes:
- The Employees tab is removed from the top navigation bar.
- All Employee management setting pages are inaccessible, except for the Feature visibility settings page, which will always be available.
- On the Account members page, any member whose only access was to the HR module (no Workable ATS role) is deactivated as a user. You will also see a warning about this. Everyone else keeps their Recruiting access as before.
If the features are currently enabled and being used, deactivation will have the following effects:
- Any related inbox items created for account members will be removed and no longer visible in the inbox.
- Any related links from emails you received while the features were enabled (e.g., signature requests, profile updates, etc) will be inaccessible.
- Any onboardings that are in progress or scheduled will be canceled, and employees being onboarded will lose access to the onboarding website.
- Any pending signature requests will be canceled.
If the features are reactivated in the future, all your data will remain intact.
Note: Time-off renewals and accruals don't run while HR features are off. If they're turned back on later, some time-off balances may be out of sync — HR Admins will need to manually unassign and reassign the affected time-off policies.
